Measuring Yourself for a Proper Fitting Cap and Gown Graduation Ensemble

The graduation cap and gown increases the distinctiveness of every event because aside from the fact that you are only bestowed the right to wear this ensemble during your graduation, you also get to wear seven different graduation attires depending on your school and degree program.

Regardless whether you opt to rent or buy the cap and gown, there is the need to ensure their perfectness. Selection of the ideal cap and gown starts with taking proper measurements. Here are the steps to ensure proper fitting of your cap and gown:

1)      For your graduation cap. If you can visit the shop where you will rent or purchase the square cap, they already have ready-made skull caps. You can choose one and have it fitted around your head. The part to be sewn is then marked based on your head size. Another option is to use a chart to find out your cap size. Place the tape measure one inch above one ear, passing over your forehead, over the other ear and encircling the back of your head. Use the measurement to determine your cap size. For instance, people with a head circumference of 22.75 to less than 24 inches need a hat size of 7–7 3/8.

2)      For your graduation gown. First, put on the whole of your graduation attire including your shoes. For accuracy, you will need the help of another person to take your measurements. Stand erect with your back against a wall. Measure from the top of your head to the edge of the heel of your shoes. Use a gown chart to determine which size you will be needing. For example, a height of 3 feet 6 inches to 3 feet 8 inches will have to obtain a size 30 gown. Take the measurement of your chest and sleeve sizes as well.

If you complete all educational levels from kindergarten to doctoral studies, you will have graduated seven times. However, even attending these many commencement exercises does not diminish how special each one is. This is because the experiences, expectations, and effort put in per level is different, making each distinct. Thus, no matter how many times you graduate there is still the desire to make each special.

For graduation caps, gowns, tassels, cords, and stoles, my recommendation is to search for a company with good customer service, excellent color choices to suit your preferences, and great prices. The online store that I purchased from is American Cap and Gown. Their store is located at http://www.americancapandgown.com
